Dental sealants

A protective coating for the grooves of teeth. Learn who may benefit from sealants and what happens when they are placed.

What is it?

Sealants are like a plastic coating which bonds to the surface of selected teeth to seal the grooves and prevent decay.

Who do they benefit?

Sealants are most beneficial to children, especially if they are placed soon after new teeth have become fully visible. Adults with deep fissures in their teeth can also benefit from sealants.

How are they placed?

The tooth surface is cleaned, the sealant is brushed onto the grooves, and a special curing light is used to set it. The procedure is straightforward and helps protect areas that are difficult to clean with a toothbrush.

Whether this fits you depends on an exam. Bring your questions to any visit, and see insurance and payment for cost questions.
