We encourage our patients to maintain a regular cleanings and offer many services such as whitenings and cosmetic dentistry to assist in making your smile ready for any upcoming activities.

Dr. Suzzette Ona is always ready to help, she can rule out any oral health problems, like gum disease and/or tooth decay. She may also refer you to your physician to check for other medical causes or go over your medications.  Along with our wonderful team of hygienists and getting cleanings that can remove hardened plaque, or tartar, along and beneath your gum line, where bacteria can hide.   Healthy Smile always encourages good oral hygiene!

Oral Cancer Awareness

Did you know one of your body’s most important early warning systems is your mouth?

During the month of April, the American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology (AAOMP), American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and the American Dental Association (ADA)  join forces with the Oral Cancer Foundation (OCF) in its campaign to remind everyone that regular oral cancer examinations from your dental professional are the best methods to detect oral cancer in its early stages.

Healthy Smile  encourages our patients to maintain their regular dental v appointments to assure oral health is always address and  that any suspicious changes in your oral health can be caught promptly.

In between dental visits, it is important for patients to be aware of the following signs and symptoms, and to see their dentist if they do not disappear after two weeks.

  • a sore or irritation that doesn’t go away
  • red or white patches
  • pain, tenderness or numbness in mouth or lips
  • a lump, thickening, rough spot, crust or small eroded area
  • difficulty chewing, swallowing, speaking, or moving your jaw or tongue
  • a change in the way your teeth fit together when you close your mouth

Healthy Smile Spring Cleaning

 Spring is finally here!  After a long Michigan winter along with a bitter battle with the flu and cold season it is time for the annual Spring Cleaning. So why not revamp our oral hygiene habits.   

Here are a few tips to start off your dental Spring Cleaning just right!

1.) Begin to establish HEALTHY hygiene routines. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that people to brush their teeth for two minutes twice a day with a toothbrush that has soft bristles.* As part of this routine attempt to incorporate flossing to prevent periodontal disease. Make it a family affair.

2. Schedule the entire family for hygiene appointments.  Keeping all members of the family on regular recall appointments allows for Dr. Ona and her dental team to evaluate and treat as needed, as well as prevent your teeth from developing cavities among any other oral health issues that may arise.  These appointments also allow us to update your medical history and any information that may have change.

3. Replace toothbrushes: The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that people should replace their toothbrush every 3-4 months*. If you or a family member experienced an illness, replace the tooth brush as bacteria can live on the bristles. If the bristles have frayed before the designated time frame, please toss it.
